Gender Equality Exhibition

Rainhill High school Year 7 pupils have just held a Gender Equality Exhibition that posed the question ‘Are you a Sexist?’

They arranged a display of pupils’ art work to challenge peoples perceptions and had interactive games for pupils, parents and teachers to try out. The pupils loved working with a local artist which they described as ‘a really good experience’ which helped them communicate their message about equality in the most effective way.

Stalls included gender experiments, guess the name of the teddy (investigating naming boys and girls), guess the job, an animation on the theme of sexism and information about the role played by Emma Watson promoting gender equality. The event led to many interesting conversations between pupils and pupils and parents and went a step towards fostering better understanding of this Sustainable Development Goal. The exhibition was described by teachers as ‘positive and really interesting’ and seen as a great success by the organsier Cherry Whitehead the lead for Life Skills.
